OK, I'll try and let you know.

$ ps aux | grep dconf | grep -v grep
generates an empty output.
However the dconf-service package is installed and
$ ls -lF /usr/lib/dconf/dconf-service
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 36136 Nov 26 12:42 /usr/lib/dconf/dconf-service*

I think it is indeed running.
This is the (slightly edited, for clarity) output:
$ ps aux | grep dbus | grep -v grep

$USER 2976 0.0 0.0 12384 1032 ? Ss 10:36 0:00 /usr/bin/ssh-agent /usr/bin/ck-launch-session /usr/bin/dbus-launch --exit-with-session /bin/bash ${HOME}/.xsession
$USER 2984 0.0 0.0 24188 572 ? S 10:36 0:00 /usr/bin/dbus-launch --exit-with-session /bin/bash ${HOME}/.xsession

I think it is: is there an easy way to check, anyway?

I don't know whether dconf-service is really required.
It does not seem to be running on my system, but gnome-mplayer seems to
be able to remember the settings, if I change them... Moreover, when I
change those settings, the ~/.config/dconf/user file is updated.
P.S.: as usual, I would like to thank you for your prompt and kind
assistance; I wish all Debian package maintainers were so responsive!
