I am still not well familiar with branches

$ git checkout alioth/master-a4
$ git checkout alioth/upstream-a4
$ git-buildpackage --git-pbuilder  --git-dist=sid --git-pristine-tar
$ gbp:error: Currently not on a branch
$ git checkout alioth/master-a4
HEAD is now at e421097... Set gbp.conf to {master,upstream}-a4

What is wrong ? :(
