Thanks for double-checking my transition proposal.

We could have a libav-tools-links package (with Provides: libav-tools) built
from src:ffmpeg providing links from av* to ff* binaries and depending on ffmpeg.

Actually they have been included in my analysis and I found (with codesearch [1])
that most simply support both or don't use the binaries directly and thus
changing the recommends/suggest is not that important. The only one that
requires avconv and recommends libav-tools is python-audioread. It is built
from the same source package as python3-audioread, which was included in my
list of reverse-dependencies of libav-tools.
For completeness:
Reverse recommends of libav-tools:
* education-desktop-other no direct use
* kphotoalbum supports both
* python-audioread drop avconv.patch (see python3-audioread)
* soundkonverter supports both
* vcmi no direct use
Reverse suggests of libav-tools:
* album no direct use
* beets uses only ffmpeg already
* get-iplayer supports both, already suggests ffmpeg
* gvb no direct use
* mediathekview no direct use
* owncloud supports both
* view3dscene no direct use
No package dependency relation:
* cantata supports both
* get-flash-videos supports both
* gpodder supports both
* imagemagick configure check for avconv, but no BD on libav-tools
* lives supports both
* marble supports both
* mps-youtube supports both
* moc supports both
* synfig supports both
Best regards,
Andreas
