[debian-mysql] Bug#427435: mysql-server-5.0: mysql-server install after purge fails

mysql-server-5.0 install after purge fails. When trying to install, following output is received:

The process then hangs indefinitely, when a ctrl-c issued, we get:

There are no mysqld processes running.

If I remove /etc/mysql, as I believe the install is looking for a non-existent lock file, then I get the 
following problem on install.
