Norbert, I wanted to drop you a note about what we've been discussing
regarding MySQL 5.5 for the upcoming 11.04 release of Ubuntu and make
sure we're inline with what you're thinking.
I noticed you commented on this bug:
http://bugs.mysql.com/59078
And wanted to bring your attention to the new report I filed here:
http://bugs.mysql.com/60061
And this one which I also found:
http://bugs.mysql.com/59106
60061 is the consolidation of 59078 and 59106, as I feel both were sort
of disregarded by their initial responses and the real issue is one of
education on what the point of shared libraries and versioned symbols
is.
We've discussed it briefly on the ubuntu-devel list and agreed that
5.5's libmysqlclient16 packages would be unsuitable, and so, will not be
built or used. When they've figured out their soname issues, we can use
them. Until then, 5.5 will be "the other mysql" and not in Ubuntu main.
One would only get it by installing mysql-server-5.5 not mysql-server.
Does this sound workable for Debian unstable for the time being as well?
