May I ask you which version of mariadb you where upgrading from?

And also please respond to the following:

Can you give me the path of this config file?

Did you uncommented the precedent line after upgrade?

Please provide output of following SQL command:
SHOW GLOBAL VARIABLES LIKE '%server_audit%';
