Thanks for your report and sorry for the delay.

It seems that another user has just opened a bug report with a very
similar issue as the one you are facing:

Without investigating further and based on Otto's first response, it
seems that there is nothing specific to Debian packaging here and you
may consider reporting this directly upstream
(https://jira.mariadb.org).
