actually, the change was made so that cases like this (and cases wherein
nagios is in another subdirectory) would work at all.  indeed, i have
been able to configure nagios to work on a virtual host.  basically,
you need to make a copy and/or modify /etc/nagios/apache.conf, include
that in your virtual host config, and do the following:

ScriptAlias /cgi-bin /usr/lib/cgi-bin/nagios
Alias / /usr/share/nagios/htdocs/

and there are a few more things like this you'll probably have to do
for anything else aliased.  the important thing is that all of the
aliases and scriptaliases have to go before the "alias /".

anyway, give it a try and let me know how that works for you.  if you
get nagios working in a satisfactory manner, send me your config and
i'll use it to make an example template in /usr/share/doc for the next
upload, which will probably be in the near future.
