This morning the nagios process had stopped though not completely  
died. I could only kill it via a kill -9. It was dead for about 1 1/2  
hours, and according to strace was no longer doing any system calls  
during this time. I've attached the strace output that I had in my  
scrollback buffer at the time.

The only out-of-the-ordinary thing I could see with it was that my  
daily Amanda backup was running and using up a lot of the CPU time.  
I'm not sure if this is related or not.
