[Pkg-nagios-devel] dependency vs. code copy

Hi there,

while looking at the ubuntu bugs for our packages just for fun, I noticed
that I use /usr/share/nagios-plugins/dpkg/functions (which is shiped with
nagios-plugins-basic) in postinst of nagios-snmp-plugins.
Now I'm not shure, how to fix the pitty. Two options are available ...

* Depend nagios-snmp-plugins on nagios-plugins-basic
* copy and ship the file also with nagios-snmp-plugins

I'm unsure which option is less worse. Is the price depending on
nagios-plugins-basic okay just for this little helper script? On the other
hand, in most cases nagios-plugins-basic will be installed anyway I guess.
Is it such a bad idea to copy just this little file into the package and
maintain both? As long as I'm doing the most work of both packages, this
might not such a big problem, but that might change anytime in the future.

Guys (and maybe girls) ... suggestions are welcome!

Thanks and with kind regards, Jan.
