That definitely clears up my viewpoint on it.  Downstream in Ubuntu we're going to be merging ahead of our feature freeze so either -6 or -7 is gonna get merged and the confusion on pcre3 (evil) vs. pcre2 (desired) was noticed and left me headscratching too.

Thanks for clearing up any confusion on my part, and do me a favor and make sure to CC me as well when we have -7 uploaded, because that's going to get me rewriting a few blog posts of mine and KB articles for Debian/Ubuntu systems.

sorry for the confusion.

The bug https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1000013
was closed early due to a commit message 'Closes: #1000013' from the Gitlab :( Will reopen it.

The 1.22.1-6 release is still using old libpcre3.

Switch to libpcre2 will be in 1.22.1-7 in which there will be also:
- ABI versioning + rebuild all modules
- final cleanup before bookworm
