Using the nvidia driver I get the same with the current version (169.12-1). xmms, mplayer are crashing with a seg fault. This is sad since this driver is bringing great improvement for the rest. Had to remove nvidia-glx and come back to the generic, slow nv driver. -- Julien Lesaint.
