For the record that 2005 patch made sense at the time, it was cobbled
together from various then-current FAQs, and worked then. I don't
agree it was a complex patch. You're probably right about the
instructions not applying in 2010, but it's rather bold to assume a
seemingly probable hypothesis -- a maintainer should know his package
enough to be sure about what applies and what doesn't.
Alas, I'm not up on 'nvidia-kernel-source' circa 2010. I've switched to
'xserver-xorg-video-nouveau', and hope to see 3d someday. Good luck on
the proprietary end...
