We cannot do this.  The NVIDIA license flatly does not allow it.

We don't want to use the libvdpau implementation in
nvidia-graphics-drivers at all, do we?  That was the point of the recent
transitional work.  We want to use the free libvdpau version, not the one
that comes in the NVIDIA package.

Hm, do you think we can maintain this and that it will keep working with
any changes to the Debian packages?

This isn't how Debian source packages work, and I don't think it's a very
good idea.  If you want to download the NVIDIA packages, you can run
debian/rules get-orig-source directly.
