Because you're attempting to use a backported kernel, and it's a known
bug that linux >= 3.13 (i.e. wheezy-backports) doesn't work with the
nvidia packages in wheezy/wheezy-backports (see #754108, #749703).
It's worth pointing out that backports are not officially supported
and that you should instead be using packages only from stable if you
want a well-tested, stable system.
Andreas, would it be ok to upload nvidia-graphics-drivers/340.46-3 to
backports, or are you intending to wait until 340.46-4 migrates first?
(I don't see a 340 branch for wheezy-backports in svn, so I don't know
what your plans are for backports.)
