How does the modprobe.d configuration look like that is installed by the
Ubuntu drivers? Is there anything added by bumblebee as well?

"lack of the alias" sounds wrong ... I would rather expect a missing
  remove nvidia-$RENAMED rmmod [nvidia-uvm] nvidia

anyway, what does 'lsmod | grep nvidia' report on Ubuntu if that module
is loaded?
