Hi Graham,

I recently added two new versioned virtual packages libnvidia-ml.so.1
and libcuda.so.1 to the nvidia driver packaging in Debian. (I may not
yet have pushed the branches.)
That should make it easier for some packages using them to decouple them
from needing to know the details of the driver packaging.
Maybe it would be useful to provide them in the Ubuntu driver packages,
too. It's a versioned Provides + an alternative dependency in the
symbols file.
