Sure, but when people are working on the package and there are bugs
coming in than it's better to have those bugs go to the list instead of
going to a single person and then the bug can be easily missed by other
persons working on it.

It seems to be ignored by dpkg, but it's not that difficult to remove. I
do it on my next svn commit. There are coming some changes to address
issues with upgrades to 2.3.
