It is true that LDAPv2 is historic, and virtually unused today. This is 
why slapd defaults to not permitting v2 (since 2001!), and why I felt 
the debconf prompt to enable it is no longer valuable.

Nonetheless, when you initialize the libldap library in your program, 
today you will still get LDAPv2 unless you explicitly ask for LDAPv3, so 
every program has to do this.
