[Pkg-owncloud-maintainers] ownCloud 6 security support, and 7 timeframe

Hi David,

generally speaking ownCloud releases are to be pushed out in cycles of 6+ months.
Currently we support 2 releases with respect to bug fixing and so on.

As a result an ownCloud release will more or less be unmaintained after approximately 1 to 1.5 years.

Taking into account the freeze time the ownCloud version being shipped might already be close
to being superseded by the next release.
This was the case with the Wheezy release and the reason for dropping ownCloud from Wheezy.

ownCloud 7 is planned to be released in June/July this year.

You could easily package OC7 for the next Debian stable.
But with respect to the usual time frame a Debian freeze takes it will be released in ~Feb 2015?
By that time we will have OC8 released - most probably. ;-)

I honestly question if ownCloud should be release under the scope of Debian main.
We are a volatile project and we will ship releases faster than Debian.

What about teaming up to maintain one repo together under the scope of OBS?

Take care,

Thomas
