How is the issue covered by this bugreport different from that covered
by bug#1001634? I mean, it seems to me that you are describing exactly
the same issue, and then proposing a concrete solution to that issue.

If you agree, then I will merge those bugreports.  If not, then please
elaborate what distinguishes the underlying issue you are reporting
here.
