proftpd and mysql

Hi maintainers,

I am a little stumped over how to get the mysql modules to work.
I have installed the debian packages proftpd-basic and
proftpd-mod-mysql, and configured everything according to the advice
given on pproftpd.org/docs/howto/SQL.html, but it seems the SQL module
isn't getting loaded at all. And when I run "proftpd -l", I cannot see
the SQL module listed either.
Do I need to recompile proftpd from scratch to get this working? Or
could you point me to the relevant documentation? Unfortunately there do
not seem to be any man pages for this sort of thing.

I am trying to get a cluster of FTP frontend servers to use mysql, so
that I can use database replication across sites for user
administration. Any help would be appreciated.
