Hi Eric,
We spoke briefly at DevOps Days in Berlin about Puppet & Debian. Since
we're getting near Debian Stretch's release, I would like to clarify a
couple of points regarding our own (Debian's) packages and the future of
Puppet.
As you are probably aware, we currently ship neither PuppetDB nor Puppet
Server in Debian. This is primarily because we lack the Clojure
toolchain (most notably leiningen2) and can't currently build the
packages from source using what's available in the Debian archive only.
We'd like to fix that eventually, but now it's too late for the Stretch
release cycle.
With that in mind, our only option is to ship the Ruby Puppet Master, as
we're now doing, and we'd like some "official" input regarding the
compatibility of Ruby Puppet Master 4.8 with 3.x clients (see Debian bug
#832536 [1]). Unfortunately the official documentation (although
otherwise complete) only mentions the Puppet Server support status, so
I'd really appreciate if you can confirm that the Ruby Puppet Master is
(or is not) compatible with 3.x clients.
Regards,
Apollon
