Hi,

thanks for the suggestion. Most of this was already implemented in sarge:
the rt3.4-clients package Recommends libio-socket-ssl-perl and has this
in README.Debian:

 HTTPS
 -----

 If you want mailgate or the RT CLI to talk HTTPS to the server rather
 than plain HTTP, you need libio-socket-ssl-perl.


I will add a note about debugging deferred deliveries by calling
rt-mailgate manually.
