Hi Willem,
If you mean that you have a registered nickname on oftc which is authenticated by NickServ, then it should work. I get kicked when the Matrix-IRC bridge sometimes loses the credentials and I need to reauthenticate with NickServ.
I hope this helps and you manage to log into the channel.
I'm not sure, maybe there was a problem with IRC spammers in the past, so maybe that's why the channel is configured like that. If not, then we could loosen the requirement as far as I am concerned (but I'm no channel admin).

I'd love to see shortwave packaged, would be happy to see the current state of your package.
