you should only have to do that for squeeze, wheezy should have
everything in place for python3.
A Cython backport is technically required for a full rebuild.
I'll ping the maintainer about it.

I am interested in backporting, but I don't mind if you do it. But I'd
appreciate if you run the diff by me, possibly also add it to a branch
in svn repository.
