Keeping the bug open bug marking which versions are affected gives
users the ability to see what the status of an issue is. It's a
central point for discussion for a specific issue.

No, a bug report is merely an indication we're aware of an existing
defect. I don't think this bug is too unreasonable to be fixed in
wheezy. Somebody interested could contribute a backport to wheezy,
though I agree it's unlikely.

BTW, this same argument could be used for many of the bugs filed in Samba's
Bugzilla.
