And as already said, if you want to help, please ask the maintainers to accept your patches/packaging improvements,
improve your skills, start maintaining it on unstable, and then after you have been accepted as comaintainer
start a backport request.

For samba any other workflow is almost impossible to me (it is not a trivial task, and newcomers just for backports
might face bugs that needs to be first fixed in unstable, so you need to be part of the team at least).

BTW a quick note on your backport, please use dch --bpo while preparing it

"* Rebuild for jessie-backports.
 * No changes."

and also you deleted debian/.gitignore in your backport.
