From Debian libSDL maintainers, any plans for bugfix release?

Hi,

I would like to ask if you have some plans for a bugfix release.
We've been waiting for a long time for this to happen, the last time
that there was a release was about 2 years ago.

People ask us every few weeks to prepare a version with a patch
commited to VCS, but we are not very keen on this, because in previous
occasions when we released changes picked up from VCS, sometimes they
were later reverted/retracted/reworked, and we launched problematic
versions in stable releases. Sometimes patches don't work or can have
subtle bad effects, depending on previous changes that happened in the
couple of years since the last release.

Even in the best of cases, we diverge from other distributions and
sometimes from official released versions of SDL, so people with
applications using SDL see different resutls and sometimes blames us,
even if the patches are supposed to fix some problem (e.g. "the mp3
music of this game doesn't work on Debian/Ubuntu but works on SUSE,
Fedora and Arch").

So we would like to know if you have plans to do a new bugfix release
soon, or if you didn't think of that yet, just to let you know that
from our side we're eagerly awaiting.

Cheers.
