Hi all, and welcome to Almut and Christine!
also bonjour (this is just to maintain Christine's French skill;)

I point you to the "debian/patches/README.patches" file which provides some
info on the patches classification (already explained by Christian), and
also contains a small introduction to quilt.

If you want to test the repository/update a patch, you have to uncompress
shadow_4.0.3.orig.tar.gz, and copy the trunk/debian from your SVN
workspace in the shadow-4.0.3 directory.

Then it is just a matter of using quilt.

I'm impatient to hear from you ;)
