Hello,

I believe you're not locked since 3 year by this issue, but as a
workaround, you can use login.

Login will open a new session and will change the owner of the terminal
(the ownership will not be restored at the end of the session).

I'm not sure adding a "allocate a new pty" option will be feasible.

Screen's manpage also states:
   · Screen must be installed as set-uid with owner root on most systems
      in order to be able to correctly change the owner of the tty device
      file for each window.

Which is probably why screen fails (screen is setuid utmp, and terminals
don't have the utmp group).

I'm not sure if it is a shadow or screen bug (see #257676).
At least #257676 and #133807 can be merged, but I don't know to which
package it should be assigned.

Kind regards,
