[Pkg-sugar-devel] What if...?

Hi Jonas, Siri, Laura, and anyone else interested in the Huayruro
Project [1],
It has come to my attention that some work has been achieved to build
installable images of Debian on XO laptops.
Since we have not heard again from Intel or had news about new laptops,
perhaps it would be smart to redirect efforts towards squeezing value
out of the deployed XO base?

I am downloading the image and will be looking into the build process.

Regards,
Sebastian

I also was pleased with debian on an xo1.

I modified os-builder(1), and have successfully built an xo1 image with
xfce desktop(2), and an xo1.5 image with mate desktop(3).

I am currently looking for ways to use debian multistrap to build an xo4
image, but I don't have a cookbook similar to the one that I found most
helpful(4). I'm thinking that I'll need to learn to use qemu.

Whether this work is ready for prime time, I'm not sure. But I'm eager
to kick the can down the road and will be glad to incorporate
improvements.

At the moment, both images can be installed to an SD card (in an xo1.5)
using devalias/fs-update(5). The images were built with a user/password
of olpc/olpc, and root password of: olpc. I think autologin needs to be
enabled, and perhaps a few other things.

Following some more testing of the XO-1 with Debian on it, I'm quite
    pleased with the results.

If a build can be automated, so that it is easily reproducible, I'd
be happy to upload and sign it for installs.
