Hi, Jonas
I created unallocated space of 50gb and installed debian. During the
installation it was unable to set up networking because of two missing
'proprietary' files.
I did deselect all (it was a different message about installing related
software). The result is that Debian boots to the login prompt. The command
apt install sucrose lightdm fails for lack of network support.
This install was on the second laptop. The preferred laptop has uefi's
protected boot. I was able to get around this to install ubuntu but
don't remember the process. It involves entering a user password
supplied by the manufacturer somewhere.
UEFI claims to be a more robust replacement for BIOS - a solution which
has worked very reliably for over a quarter century. In my experience
UEFI has invariably been an obstacle to overcome and has never come
close to its claim to supplant the need for grub.
