Your suggestions for how _Sugarlabs_ can change things _upstream_ from 
Debian is not really of any use here: Please share such suggestions and 
insight upstream, and eventually here only reference that other post.

I assume Sebastian described an issue occuring specifically with 
Debian-packaged Sugar.  I imagine the cause is a failure of registering 
with MIME database (which is likely done slightly different on different 
distributions), but that's just a vague suspicion.
