This may be the hddown bogosity in /etc/init.d/halt, or it can be a problem
with the firmware in the laptop. If the later, it is being discursed as an
ongoing thread in linux-acpi, and also
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8855
Just edit /etc/init.d/hald and get rid of the hddown="-h"; change it to
hddown="". If the bug remains, it means you hit the issue in the kernel bug
report above.
