Is it the init-ramfs that starts init ? In any case, i can assure you that i did never modify the ramfs default configuration.
You may remember i logged the rc.local environment as:
PID TTY STAT TIME COMMAND
2708 ? S 0:00 /bin/sh /etc/rc2.d/S99rc.local start CONSOLE=/dev/console SELINUX_INIT=YES TERM=linux rootmnt=/root INIT_VERSION=sysvinit-2.86 init=/sbin/init PATH=/sbin:/usr/sbin:/bin:/usr/bin runlevel=2 RUNLEVEL=2 PWD=/ VERBOSE=yes previous=N PREVLEVEL=N SHLVL=1 HOME=/ BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.30-2-amd64 _=/etc/rc2.d/S99rc.local
and i wonder why it says "SELINUX yes". It was one of my first actions to deinstall anything with SELinux in the name, as far as possible (some could not be deinstalled, coreutils and many more depend on it).
I tried to deinstall policykit but that does not seem to be possible.
Is it normal that there is both packages sysv-rc and sysvinit (and the *-utils) installed ?
Hey wait, there's a file /etc/init.d/.legacy-bootordering. And i remember i said 'no' to dependency-based system. Can this be the cause of the problem ?
ok, i reinstalled all sysv* stuff and initscripts (from the archive server) and on first run there was an error displayed in aptitude:
E: Internal Error, Could not perform immediate configuration (2) on sysv-rc
A package failed to install. Trying to recover:
Press return to continue.
Then i repeated the reinstall for every package seperately, and initscripts did reinstall with no complaint but sysv-rc said,
Setting up sysv-rc (2.87dsf-6) ...
info: Checking if it is safe to convert to dependency based boot.
warning: Asked to not convert legacy boot sequence to dependency based boot sequencing.
And finally, there's another issue, maybe it's related ?
The default language is en_EN, and the user is de_DE. But since some time (i don't know how long) i can not get export LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 working. Some textconsole apps say it is not supported.
It sound ridiculous, on first glance this does not look like related. But i don't know.
I configured a lot of files for this and compiled locales for all these languages.
It's just something that does not work and i don't know why.
I need to tell you that i am away on work from tuesday, until the weekend.
Best regards,
Michael
