Could you possibly try
http://people.debian.org/~rleigh/sysvinit/sysvinit_2.88dsf-15.dsc

(amd64 packages are also in the same directory)

This fixes the startpar issue mentioned previously.  It would be
good to know if this is the cause of the failure, or if the
failure is due to something else.
