[Pkg-sysvinit-devel] Bug#545976: Safety issues in automated migration to dependency based boot

Mainly looking at #545976.

I've made it the default to attempt migration to dependency-
based boot. That is, to remove the debconf question so that
there is no longer a choice:

http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=collab-maint/sysvinit;a=commitdiff;h=5e78fb4c8e5b87f1554e5b0dd596c8044bc18214

This also updates the error message to give instructions on
how to purge obsolete init scripts, which is the most common
cause of failure.

I'm wondering if it would, at this point, be safe to remove the
use of is_unsafe_to_activate and just run insserv anyway (via
activate_insserv) and fail the postinst if insserv fails. Could
this result in any major problems having those old scripts
included?

(I'm just setting up a lenny install to test this out for real.)

Regards,
Roger
