Dear tcltk team!
I would be interested in packaging and maintaining xotcl
(http://www.xotcl.org), starting with release 1.5.6, as proper extension
in the tcltk family of debian packages, both for tcl8.4 and tcl8.5.
As for my personal background: I am research fellow at the Institute for
Information Systems and New Media, being part of the Vienna University
of Economics. In this role, I am in close contact with Gustaf Neumann
and Uwe Zdun, the originators and maintainers of xotcl. I have been
involved in application development with xotcl and xotcl concepts for
more than 4 years now, especially in the context of openacs
(http://openacs.org) and aolserver.
I have got some experience in package management on debian + ubuntu,
mainly packaging for my personal use, though I have never been assigned
the official role of package maintainer in either community.
I would be happy if I could contribute to your efforts that way.
As for the way to proceed, some questions popped up in my mind:
* I am well aware of the policy guidelines at
http://pkg-tcltk.alioth.debian.org/tcltk-policy.html/. Are there any
more sources of information to take into account. I browsed through the
pkg-tcltk-devel archives, but I couldn't spot any.
* It would be convenient to align my packaging process in a way that
would allow for propose the xotcl packages as ubuntu ones as well. I
realised that ubuntu packages (universe; tcltk-defaults) have a personal
union with the debian ones, being united by the efforts of Sergei
Golovan. Could you provide me with some guidance in getting xotcl
packages ready for either *verse?
Thanks for illuminating me!
All the best
//stefan
