Hi there,

I hit the same bug. To answer your questions:

 > Could you check your hal init script, if you have those checks there?

Yes, I have the checks as well.

Here is the current status of my system:

Starting System Tools Backends: system-tools-backends.
...
Errors were encountered while processing:
hal
gnome-power-manager
gnome-mount
gnome-volume-manager
sound-juicer
gnome-desktop-environment
gnome
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

...

# ls -l /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket
srwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 2008-03-07 09:46 /var/run/dbus/
system_bus_socket

# ps auxwww|grep dbus
root 9775 0.0 0.0 3120 704 pts/1 R+ 16:19 0:00 grep
dbus

# ps auxwww|grep hal
root 9777 0.0 0.0 3116 700 pts/1 R+ 16:19 0:00 grep
hal

I will try not to reboot so if you need me to check anything else,
just let me know.

Thanks,
-Chris
