It's a Debian default. Not an Avahi default.

And doing what Debian does with Avahi+IPv6 is a very bad idea, as I
have told Sjoerd before.

Also, I believe only the tiniest number of networks run exclusively
Debian Unstable these days. You might not believe this, but there is
this alternative operating system around, which is called "Windows",
and which enabled IPv6 at all only very recently, so this Bonjour
thing cannot do IPv6 either when it is running of those machines. And
let's not forget all those embedded devices like printers, cameras,
routers, which do bonjour -- but without ipv6.

But of course, my insight into all this fancy zeroconf stuff is rather
limited, ya know? You of course, know much more about it, I
figure. So, teach me.

It's not a limitation in GLIBC. It's the stupid applications.
