The firmware dvb-ttpci-01.fw is only useful when you want to use a
DVB-Card based on the Design of the TechnoTrend Full-Featured Cards
(Hauppauge Nexus, TechnoTrend FF 1.* and a few others)

Well, when you ask the question this way, then i would say that your
expectations are broken, because the default vdr requires a DVB-Card
with a integrated mpeg-decoder, for example the Hauppauge Nexus. There
are to projects to resolve this issure, such as the vdr-xine and
vdr-softdevice plugins, but it is not possible to use kvdr or xawtv
with these plugins, because they do not implement a v4l-device like
/dev/video0, they are more or less only software-decoders for the
mpeg-stream.

Well, you are right, it seems that there is no note in the documentation
that you need a DVB-Card with mpeg-decoder to use the standard vdr
without plugins, i will add this to the package description and=20
README.Debian in the next release of the vdr-packages.

I also plan to add the xine-plugin to the official Debian-archive, but
this will not happen very soon, because at the moment it requires a
patched libxine, and i guess the maintainer of the libxine-package
will not include this patch (at least not before Sarge is released).

Btw:

Is this the official vdrsion of the vdr-package? If yes, then it is
more than 11 months old, at the moment there is vdr 1.2.6-5 in testing
and unstable!
