- Most patches change the plugin-interface requiring to increase the
version number of all plugins and recompile them - changes in the
patches affecting the  interface are a nightmare!
- Some patches are not very well maintained and kinda buggy
- With all the patches, it's hard to track down problems in the upstream
sources
- Klaus doesn't care about the patches, so each new VDR release may
break some of them


But all that's different between a vanilla and a patched vdr package is
the debian/patches/00list file. It would be no problem to include all
the patches in the source package - I already have them in the
e-tobi.net-Version. So you are free to provide a "multipatch" vdr in
Ubuntu.

Debian is a little bit more "conservative", so we try to stay as close
to the upstream source as possible.
