Debian Sarge?

kernel 2.4.27-1-386 or kernel-2.4.27-2-386 , BTW?

(uname -a should tell you that)

There are binary packages for K7, if you really want, BTW
(apt-get install kernel-image-2.4-k7)

Zaptel-source. Also note that latesty packages have the bristuff patch
in so IIRC they're not binary compatible with the default Asterisk from
Digium. The good news is that I've already built debs of zaptel-modules
for the latest sarge kernel from that source. You can grab them from

Latest packages use module-assistant which greatly simplifies building
a custom module package. I generally dislike the fact that it encourges
to build as root, so I recommend the following to build as a user
without the annoying ncurses interface:

  m-a -u . -t build zaptel

Make sure beforehand that zaptel-source is installed, and that the
kernel-headers package matching your kernel-image package is installed.

Did you run 'depmod -a' ?

I heartly recommend using packages rather than 'make install' . Even if
you build the packages yourself. Things are much more reproducable and
predictable. I build all packages as a user and then I know exactly what
damages has root enflicted on my system.
