that's a kernel choice, userland is always i386 as required by Debian
policy.

installing the "zaptel-source" package of Sarge should work seamlessly
with the asterisk from Debian Sarge. if that's not the case, then that
should be fixed anyway. It's however true, that there may be problems
running Debian's zaptel-source with the stock Digium asterisk tarball
version. I nevertheless hope (yet haven't verified) it's not a problem
running our zaptel with Digium's asterisk, but only a problem running
our asterisk without our zaptel in Sarge.

Any comments what doesn't (and what does) work are welcome, so we do get
a picture of what needs to be addressed still.

Basically you should have wcfxo support by running:
"apt-get install zaptel-source module-assistant dpatch;m-a a-i
zaptel;depmod -a;modprobe wcfxo"

The dependencies on zaptel-source are still missing, that's why you need
to force their installation.
