I believe that both the alsa & oss channels drivers are really for demonstr=
ation purposes and are are not really meant for use as end point in a produ=
ction environment. This is also supported in that they don't do things such=
 as release the sound card when not required.

Asterisk in a production environment should be running with these channels =
unloaded.

If you want to run the end point on the same machine then you are better of=
f with the dedicated end point application, either SIP, H323, iax or hardwa=
re.=20

There are also issues with port reservation, such as h323 server and end po=
int wanting port 1720. And of course the limited state of 323 support. SIP =
does work well though.
