Is there any specific feature that requires that?
It does support some newer guilines, but I'm not sure that this is the
criteria for upgrading software in Stable.
1.0.9 has changed the behaviour of Asterisk a little (see the CHANGES
file of it).

Unstable already has 1.2 packages, and they'll soon gointo Testing.
