The big problem with cdbs is that the resulting rules file is no longer 
imperative, and thus very hard to understand as rules are pulled 
together from a number of files; in the specific case of spandsp, it 
would also be desirable to build different variants for different 
subarchitectures (armv5's "clz" instruction springs to mind here, using 
it would reduce CPU load by a factor of 3), and cdbs AFAIK does not 
handle that.

And why should it? The fax protocols have not changed since. The only 
thing left to do is optimisations.
