Do you have a reference to that failed attempt, that I can investigate?

I think perhaps you misunderstood: I did not suggest backporting this
new  imap feature to an older version of *asterisk*.

Instead, I suspect that failed attempts to build against Debian could be
due to the odd (compared to UW IMAP upstream) shared libc-client
library, rather than a too old version of *libc-client*.
