I presume we include bristuff because we have users who actually want/ use
it.

Personally I don't, but I presume they are out there..

However, looking at:
http://qa.debian.org/developer.php?popcon=asterisk

It seems while there are 300 asterisk installs, there are only 18
asterisk-bristuff installs and 186 asterisk-classic installs.

Given the small community for bristuff, perhaps one option is to revert to
asterisk classic only and allow those who want bristuff to role their
own.. With hooks if necessary.. Ie we seem to be going through a lot of
work for little benefit.

Would people scream if we dropped bristuff?

Bristuff patches are only released under the GPL, to get something
included in asterisk it needs to be dual licenced under the GPL and to
Digium. As Debian distributes asterisk under the GPL we can include GPL
only code as well. Digium choose not to distribute GPL only code.
